Cookie Policy
A breakdown of the cookies PayoutCompass uses, what they do, and how you can control them. This policy works alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers data handling more broadly.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device when you visit them. They’re used for a variety of purposes — remembering you’re logged in, keeping site preferences between visits, measuring how the site is used, and various other functions that help websites work properly.
Cookies on their own can’t access anything else on your device, install software, or read other files. They store small pieces of information that the website can read back when you return.
How PayoutCompass uses cookies
We use a small number of cookies to make the site function and to understand how it’s used. We don’t use cookies to build advertising profiles or sell data to third parties.
The cookies you may encounter on this site fall into three categories:
1. Essential cookies
These are required for the site to work properly. Without them, basic features may not function. They include:
- Security cookies — protect against malicious activity (e.g. cross-site request forgery, brute-force attempts).
- Caching cookies — help deliver pages faster by remembering which version of a page should be served to you.
- Session cookies — temporary cookies that maintain state during your visit (e.g. remembering you’ve navigated through pages without re-loading the whole site).
Essential cookies don’t require consent under most data protection frameworks, and they can’t be disabled through the site itself — only through your browser settings, though doing so may break parts of the site.
2. Analytics cookies
These help us understand how readers use the site — which pages are read, which casino reviews get the most attention, where visitors come from. The data is aggregated and doesn’t identify individual users. We use this information to improve content and prioritize what to review next.
3. Third-party cookies (affiliate tracking)
When you click a “Visit Casino” link on this site, the destination casino’s system may set its own cookies on your device to track the referral back to us. These cookies are set by the casino, not by PayoutCompass, and they operate under the casino’s own privacy policy.
The purpose is to attribute your signup back to PayoutCompass so we can be paid the relevant affiliate commission. Most of these cookies are functional in nature — they record that you came from our site and expire after a defined period (typically 30 to 90 days).
Cookies you may encounter from third parties
Some third-party services we use may set their own cookies for legitimate operational reasons. The main ones:
- Cloudflare (CDN and security) — may set cookies to identify trusted traffic and protect against attacks.
- Hosting infrastructure — may set basic functional cookies to balance traffic and serve content efficiently.
- Casino affiliate networks — when you click outbound to a casino, that casino (or its affiliate network) may set referral tracking cookies as described above.
How to manage cookies
You have full control over cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you:
- View what cookies are stored on your device
- Delete cookies individually or all at once
- Block cookies from specific websites
- Block all third-party cookies while allowing first-party ones
- Block all cookies entirely
Where to find these settings varies by browser. Quick references:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
If you block all cookies, parts of this site (and most websites) may not work as intended. We don’t recommend blocking essential cookies; analytics and affiliate cookies are safer to disable if privacy is your priority.
“Do Not Track” signals
Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) setting that signals your preference not to be tracked across sites. Because there isn’t a universally agreed standard for how websites should respond to DNT, we don’t currently change our behavior based on this signal. We do limit our tracking to what’s described in this policy regardless of DNT preferences.
Updates to this policy
If we change the cookies we use or how we use them, we’ll update this policy and revise the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be flagged more visibly.
