Our Methodology

How we review every casino.

Eight categories. Real money. The same process, every time. This is the testing methodology behind every rating on PayoutCompass — what we measure, how we weight it, and where casinos can lose points they can’t buy back.

The three rules that govern every review

01

No real deposit, no review.

We don’t publish reviews based on what a casino tells us about itself. Every casino on this site has taken a real MYR deposit from us and paid out a real withdrawal back. If the testing isn’t complete, the review doesn’t go live.

02

Same eight categories, every casino.

Every review covers the same eight test categories in the same order with the same weights applied. That’s the only way comparisons across reviews mean anything — if a casino scores 8.5 and another scores 7.8, you can trust that the two numbers measure the same thing.

03

Commercial relationships don’t change scores.

We earn affiliate commissions when readers sign up through our links. Higher commission rates don’t unlock higher scores. A casino can pay us well and still score a 6/10 if that’s what the testing showed. The integrity of the rating is the only thing of value we sell.

The eight test categories

Every casino goes through the same eight tests in the same order. Each category is scored 0–10, then weighted to produce the final overall rating.

01

Licence & Operator Check

Weight: 20%

The first thing we do before touching a deposit form. We verify the licence authority, confirm the licence number against the regulator’s registry, identify the parent operator company, and look up its history with regulators and complaint databases. Casinos that fail this stage never get reviewed — they don’t make it past the front door.

What we check: Licence authority and jurisdiction, licence number validity, parent company identification, years in operation, complaint history with regulators, presence on any industry blacklists, ownership transparency.

02

Withdrawal Timing

Weight: 20%

The category casinos hate most and the one we weight heaviest. We request a real withdrawal, start a timer, and log every step until ringgit hits the bank. If the casino asks for additional verification, that goes into the report. If it stalls, that goes in too. The “average payout time” on every PayoutCompass review is the result of an actual stopwatch, not the casino’s marketing claim.

What we check: Time from withdrawal request to bank credit, verification requests (timing and reasonableness), any holds or delays, processing communication quality, withdrawal limits, fee transparency, multiple withdrawal tests across time of day.

03

Deposit & Banking

Weight: 15%

A real MYR deposit through the methods Malaysian players actually use — DuitNow QR, FPX, TNG eWallet, Boost, local bank transfers. We log how fast the deposit clears, how transparent the casino is about fees and limits, and whether the methods advertised actually work end-to-end. Casinos that say they accept DuitNow but quietly route withdrawals through international wires lose serious points here.

What we check: Available deposit methods (claimed vs. functional), deposit processing speed, minimum and maximum limits, fee disclosure, friction points (forced re-verification, blocked transactions), method consistency between deposits and withdrawals.

04

Games & Providers

Weight: 15%

We audit the game library against what the casino claims to offer, verify that the providers listed are real (and not white-label clones), and play across slots, table games, and live dealer to assess quality and authenticity. Mobile experience is tested separately on both iOS and Android. A casino with a slick interface but a thin or fake game library doesn’t crack the top tier.

What we check: Total game count (claimed vs. actual), provider authenticity (verified against provider site listings), live dealer quality, slot library variety, table game coverage, mobile app or browser experience, game loading speeds, mobile gameplay parity.

05

Bonus Terms Audit

Weight: 10%

Marketing claims a “288% bonus up to RM2,880.” Our job is to read the actual terms and translate them into plain English: what’s the wagering requirement, what’s the time limit, which games contribute (and at what rate), what’s the max bet during wagering, what’s the max cashout. We calculate the realistic value of each bonus, not the headline number.

What we check: Wagering requirements (bonus vs. deposit-plus-bonus), wagering time limit, game contribution rates, max bet rules during wagering, max cashout caps, withdrawal restrictions, fairness of expiration policies, bonus stacking rules.

06

Customer Support

Weight: 8%

We contact support across multiple channels — live chat, email, phone where available — with both simple questions (“what’s your minimum withdrawal?”) and edge-case ones (“my withdrawal has been pending 48 hours, what’s happening?”). We measure response time, response quality, and whether the agent actually solves the issue or routes us in circles. We also test in English and Bahasa Malaysia where the casino claims to offer both.

What we check: Channel availability (live chat, email, phone), response speed, agent knowledge, escalation path, language support, 24/7 claims vs. reality, resolution quality on actual issues.

07

Terms & Conditions Review

Weight: 7%

We read the T&Cs in full and flag anything that’s player-hostile: unreasonable dormant account fees, broad reservation-of-rights clauses, geographic restrictions buried in clause 47, account closure terms, bonus abuse definitions that are so vague they could apply to anyone. Casinos with reasonable T&Cs that are written in clear language score well. Casinos hiding traps in fine print don’t.

What we check: Account dormancy fees, withdrawal limits and timelines, bonus abuse definitions, account closure conditions, dispute resolution process, jurisdiction clauses, fairness of self-exclusion handling, transparency of T&C updates.

08

Responsible Gambling

Weight: 5%

We check whether the casino offers genuine responsible gambling tools or just a token compliance page. Deposit limits, loss limits, session timers, self-exclusion options, reality checks, links to support resources — these tools should be available, functional, and easy to find. We also test whether self-exclusion actually works by attempting to log in during an active exclusion period.

What we check: Availability of deposit/loss/session limits, self-exclusion functionality (tested), cooling-off periods, reality check notifications, links to support resources (Talian Kasih, BeGambleAware, etc.), prominence of responsible gambling messaging, ease of accessing tools from the main account area.

How the final rating is calculated

Each category is scored 0–10. The category scores are multiplied by their weights and added together to produce the overall rating, also on a 0–10 scale. Licencing and withdrawal performance carry the most weight because those are the categories where casinos can do the most damage to players.

What the scores mean

A rating without context is just a number. Here’s how to read scores on PayoutCompass at a glance:

9.0–10

Editor’s Choice

Best-in-class across every category. Licenced by a reputable authority, fast withdrawals, strong game library, fair bonus terms, responsive support. These are the casinos we’d recommend to family. The bar is high — most casinos don’t get here.

8.0–8.9

Highly Recommended

Strong across the board with one or two minor weaknesses. Solid pick for most Malaysian players. The weaknesses are documented in the review — check whether they affect how you play.

7.0–7.9

Solid Choice (with caveats)

Reliable for most players, but with notable trade-offs in one or two categories. Could be the right pick depending on your priorities — e.g. fast payouts but limited game library, or vice versa. Read the review carefully.

6.0–6.9

Acceptable, proceed with caution

Operational and licenced, but with significant weaknesses that affect the player experience. Use only if you understand the trade-offs and accept them — better options exist on this site.

Below 6.0

Not recommended

Multiple categories underperform or there are red flags we’d want every reader to see. We publish these reviews so the failures are documented — not because we’d suggest signing up.

Casinos we won’t review

Some operators don’t make it to the review stage at all. These criteria are applied before testing begins — if a casino fails any one of them, it’s excluded from PayoutCompass regardless of how attractive its bonus or affiliate program might be.

  • Operating without a licence. No licence authority, no review. We don’t acknowledge unlicenced operators on this site, even if they accept Malaysian players.
  • On a regulatory blacklist. Operators flagged by recognized gambling regulators for player abuse, non-payment, or fraudulent practice are auto-excluded.
  • Confirmed non-payment history. Casinos with documented patterns of refusing legitimate withdrawals (verified across multiple complaint databases) are excluded regardless of licence status.
  • Restricted to Malaysian players via T&Cs. If the casino’s own terms prohibit Malaysian players, there’s no point reviewing it — signups would be void anyway.
  • Active legal action from regulators. Operators currently under investigation or enforcement action by recognized authorities are paused from the review pipeline until resolved.
  • Affiliate-program-only operators with no public site. If a “casino” exists only as a private affiliate funnel and players can’t independently sign up or research the operator, we won’t review it.

When reviews get updated

A review goes out of date the moment something at the casino changes. We re-test on the following schedule:

  • Monthly: Withdrawal timing tests on the top-rated casinos. If payout speeds drop, the review and the homepage stats update within the week.
  • Quarterly: Full re-review of every featured casino — new deposit, new withdrawal, fresh check on bonus terms, games, and support.
  • Event-triggered: If a casino changes ownership, loses its licence, modifies T&Cs in a material way, or shows up in fresh complaint patterns, the review is updated immediately and dated.

Every review on PayoutCompass shows the date of the most recent test cycle. If you’re reading a review and the date feels old, contact us — we’d rather hear about gaps than let them sit.
